Raipur, December 1, 2025: The Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Raipur successfully hosted the 22nd Annual National Conference of the Indian Congress of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology (ICFMTCON 2025) on November 28–29, 2025.Held under the theme “Forensics Everywhere”, the two-day event saw participation from leading forensic experts, academicians, researchers, and practitioners from across the country, focusing on contemporary challenges and advancements in forensic medicine and toxicology.
The conference was inaugurated by Lt Gen Ashok Jindal (Retd), Executive Director & CEO of AIIMS Raipur, who served as the Chief Guest. In his address, he highlighted the ethical and legal complexities faced by medical professionals while dealing with cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, stressing the urgent need for greater sensitivity, training, and procedural clarity in handling child sexual abuse cases.Prof Eli Mohapatra, Dean (Academics), AIIMS Raipur, attended as Guest of Honour, while Prof S.K. Verma, National President of the Indian Congress of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, delivered the Presidential Address.
A major highlight was the prestigious Prof Jagdish Chandra Oration, delivered by Prof (Dr) B.D. Gupta on the topic “Laws for Women: Boon or Bane”. The oration critically examined evolving legal protections for women and their practical implications in forensic investigations.In a proud moment for the institute, Dr Krishnadutt Chavali, Professor and Head of the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology at AIIMS Raipur, was conferred the Fellowship of the Indian Congress of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology in recognition of his outstanding contributions to academics, research, and professional leadership in the field.The scientific sessions featured eminent speakers and covered diverse topics:
- Prof Sachidananda Mohanty, Executive Director, AIIMS Awantipora, on why forensic medicine experts often excel in administrative roles.
- Prof S.P. Dhaneria on critical drug-alcohol interactions.
- Dr Soumeek Choudhary, noted forensic expert and filmmaker, on the power of cinema in creating public awareness about forensic science.
- Prof Akashdeep Aggarwal and Dr Utsav Parekh on the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence in forensic practice and medical education.
The conference also included guest lectures, oral and poster presentations, panel discussions, and interactive sessions that fostered rich academic exchange.ICFMTCON 2025 underscored AIIMS Raipur’s growing stature as a centre of excellence in forensic medicine and reaffirmed the critical role of the discipline in delivering justice, supporting law enforcement, and protecting public health. The event concluded on a high note, with participants appreciating the meticulous organisation and the relevance of discussions in today’s medico-legal landscape.
