Raipur: Shri Shankaracharya Professional University, Bhilai (Chhattisgarh), has awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Journalism and Mass Communication to Divya Pathak. She successfully completed her research work on the topic “Journalism of Lalit Surjan: A Study”. The research was carried out under the guidance of Dr. Dhanesh Joshi.

This research is considered a significant academic achievement in the history of journalism in Central India. Notably, this is the first in-depth academic research in the region focusing on the journalistic contributions of an active and influential journalist. The study critically analyzes various dimensions of Lalit Surjan’s journalistic vision, social concerns, cultural consciousness, democratic values, and people-oriented journalism.

Lalit Surjan has been one of the most prominent pillars of journalism in Chhattisgarh. He served as the editor of the renowned newspaper Deshbandhu and consistently raised his voice for public interest, social justice, cultural awareness, and democratic values through his writing and editorial leadership. His journalism was not limited to mere news dissemination but emerged as a guiding force for society.

Divya Pathak’s research not only enables an academic evaluation of Lalit Surjan’s contributions but also lays a strong foundation for future research on journalism in Chhattisgarh and Central India. This study will prove to be a valuable reference for students of journalism, research scholars, and media academicians.
