Islamabad: In a significant development that highlights growing military cooperation in the Middle East, Pakistan has deployed a large military contingent to Saudi Arabia as part of a strategic defence agreement signed between the two nations last year. The Gulf Kingdom officially confirmed the deployment on Saturday, April 11, 2026.
According to a statement issued by Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defence, the Pakistani contingent includes approximately 13,000 soldiers along with 10 to 18 fighter jets. These forces have been stationed at the King Abdulaziz Air Base, located in the Kingdom’s Eastern Sector. The deployment reportedly includes advanced fighter aircraft and support units from the Pakistan Air Force.
The move is aimed at strengthening joint military coordination between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, enhancing operational readiness, and ensuring security stability in the region. The Ministry further emphasized that this collaboration is part of broader efforts to maintain peace at both regional and international levels.
A senior Pakistani government official also confirmed the deployment, stating that it falls under the strategic defence agreement between the two countries. Under this pact, any external attack on one country will be treated as an attack on the other, reflecting a deepening of bilateral military ties.
International affairs expert Mohammad Mehdi revealed that the deployment had actually taken place last month, but the information was only recently made public by Saudi authorities. According to Mehdi, around 10,000 Pakistani troops were already stationed in Saudi Arabia prior to this latest deployment, bringing the total number of Pakistani personnel in the Kingdom to over 20,000.
He clarified that the presence of Pakistani troops and aircraft is strictly defensive in nature and is intended to safeguard Saudi Arabia’s territorial integrity. “This arrangement has been made under the defence pact, and the forces are there solely for the protection of Saudi Arabia,” Mehdi said.
Adding another layer to the development, another official disclosed that Pakistan had also deployed missile interceptor systems to Saudi Arabia last month. This move reportedly came in response to escalating regional tensions, particularly following Iran’s attacks on American military bases in the Gulf region.
The deployment underscores Pakistan’s long-standing defence partnership with Saudi Arabia, which has evolved over decades. Both countries have consistently collaborated on military training, intelligence sharing, and strategic operations.
